What Thai People Secretly Do around YOU
The verb แอบ (watch the video for pronunciation guide) literally meaning "to hide" can be used as a verb modifier to indicate that the action is done secretly. The modifying verb must precede the verb it is modifying; thus, แอบ + main verb.
Here are some examples in which the main verbs are being modified by แอบ:
1. รัก rák "to love"
แอบรัก "to secretly love" ("to have a crush on," that is)
2. กิน kin "to eat"
แอบกิน "to secretly eat" (Imagine someone stealing your food while you're looking away.)
3. เขียน kʰǐan "to write"
แอบเขียน "to secretly write" (Imagine girls passing notes in a classroom while the teacher is talking.)
